And Then There Were Four

Well, we did it. The decision was made. We no longer have Bubbles, the rooster. We were hoping that his disposition would improve. Hoping that he would go back to being the sweet rooster of his youth. The rooster who was so friendly that he jumped in my lap while we were sitting outside. But, it wasn't happening. He has threatened every pet sitter that we've had. He jumped on our neighbor not long ago when he opened the coop door. Luckily, he had a heavy coat on. So, bye bye Bubbles. The Amish neighbors came & took him away a few minutes ago. I told them to take him as long as I didn't hear about what a yummy dinner he made. As far as I will know, he might be running around their barn, terrorizing them & not in a stew pot.
Bubbles & the girls.

I don't know much about roosters and chickens, but from what I do, you made the right choice, as well not asking what his next chapter is--I would have made that same choice too!

I hope your New Year is a happy and healthy one for you and your family!

OH Bubbles, now look what you've gone and done! Got yourself in some hot water!! Sorry he didn't work out. Will you have to get another one to have eggs? I know nothing about chickens and know that that is probably a really dumb question...debbie

Sorry about Bubbles. Same thing happened to me but Doodles made the best soup, and the "girls" were much happier.

Coq au vin wasn't a happy mistake, my dear, it came after much reflection. Poor Bubbles was just keeping his flock to himself and protecting them from intruders. But, I'm sure life is much more peaceful, now. A moment of silence...

I once had a rooster like that. He was the picked on chick so I raised him special. His name was Bunny Butt because he had a tail like a puff. Anyway, he started going after my youngest and once my Mom and a few times me but I gave him the boot. I tried to give him away as I couldn't butcher him. Whenever someone came for a visit I would put him in a giant old rabbit hutch until they left. Well one time after my company left I went to let him out and he was gone...

All that was there was a beak...

And a hole in the bottom of the cage...

I told my youngest who was terrorized by him and he knew I still liked that darn bird so he tried to pretend he was sad but slowly a smile came across his face. It is something I laugh about every time I think about it and tell the story. I learned to never ever put up with that again though and I've had many roosters since but never a mean one.

Sorry for the book...well, no I am not, LOL.
